Susie Larson is one of my favorite authors. To have been a part of the book launch team for her latest release, “Prevail” was a blessing. I have read many of Susie’s books and find that her words help me feel God’s presence more intimately. Her book Fully Alive was life changing for me, and Your Powerful Prayers changed the way I pray today. Her writings are not only a gift to me, but to the body of Christ.
Susie Larson’s new release, “Prevail, 365 days of Enduring Strength from God’s Word,” is a daily devotional. This book was a God sent for me. It came at a time when I was struggling with feelings of loss and grief. I had been let go from my job, and I was facing the empty nest syndrome with our daughter having moved to another state.
This book inspired my faith at a time when I had been struggling to find a vision for my life.
Susie Larson has a gift of encouragement and is able to word things in a way that makes you feel hopeful and willing to persevere. She has the ability to empower you through her words, to encourage you to believe in a God that is faithful and true.
I found each days’ context of “Prevail” easy to read. There is a short devotional, followed by a Scripture passage (“Learn”). She then suggests something to ponder (“Flourish”), and ends with a short prayer. Her writing is natural and easy to read. You will feel like you are having a cup of tea, engaged in conversation with her.
What I learned from reading this 365 day devotional is that even when I face uncertainties, I can prevail in my faith by believing in a powerful and loving God. Each devotional challenged me to question if it is well with my soul.
The author says the following (from Facebook Live):
- “To prevail means to prove more powerful than your opponent and to be the last one standing. I searched Genesis through Revelation to find opportunities and evidences to stand strong and flourish (evidence = when they did it right, so we can learn from them; opportunities =when they did it wrong, so we can learn from them too).”
- “We titled this book “Prevail” long before we ever knew what was going to be happening in our day. It’s such a timely word.”
“This is the word for 2021! We are going to overcome.”
- “One thing I realized as I search the whole arc of Scripture is how often God‘s people suffer and how we forget who we are. As I was working through book after book I saw the same narrative on the same loop over and over again. People grumble and gripe, they forget the character and the goodness of God. They fall into sin, they fall into a mess. They feel broken and as they come back to God He blesses them and they start to make it about Him again.”
I highly recommend this devotional for anyone looking to make God their shield and strength. In her latest release “Prevail,” Susie Larson will guide you through the entire Bible, provoking questions, and giving you practical steps to apply what you’ve learned. You will experience God’s presence in a fresh way, so that “you may finish your race faithfully and joyfully.”
I give Susie Larson’s book “Prevail” 5 stars.
