Fear is a natural reaction to all the turmoil in our world today.
If left unchecked, fear will deceive you by exaggerating the truth.
We can, however, learn to overcome fear. The word of God is the most powerful way for sure (You can read “Bible Verses And Quotes To Help You Fight Off Your Fears” for some of my favorite Bible verses to help you fight fear). Here are a few more quotes on overcoming fear by some of my favorite authors, pastors and/or speakers. May they give you hope and strength when fear tries to overtake your thoughts.
1.”I’ve got this amazing relationship with God that is better than life, itself, so marvelous, so wonderful that everything else can fall apart and I’m okay.”—Francis Chan
2. “Memorizing the Bible is most important. “Thinking God’s thoughts” will take the place of worried, anxious concerns.” — Billy Graham
3. “Gratitude looks to the Past and love to the Present; fear, avarice, lust, and ambition look ahead.” — C.S. Lewis
4. “Joy in the Lord is one of the best preparations for the trials of this life. The cure for care is joy in the Lord.” — Charles Spurgeon
5. “Let your cares drive you to God. I shall not mind if you have many of them if each one leads you to prayer. If every fret makes you lean more on the Beloved, it will be a benefit.” — Charles Spurgeon
6. “May you, if you have fear, also have faith with your fear, and then afterwards have your faith without any fear! When faith gets strong enough, fears are expelled!” — Charles Spurgeon
7. “He who kneels the most, stands the best.” — D.L. Moody
8. “Practice the presence of Jesus. Learn the habit of reminding yourself every single moment of the day, “God is with me.” Practice talking to him all the time—when you’re walking down the street, getting in your car, or even taking a bath. When you do that, you will realize he’s always with you. You don’t have to “spend some time”with God.All your time can be “God time.” When you become aware of God’s presence in your life, fear will go away.” — Rick Warren
9. “Move against the fear. You can’t go around, over, or under fear. You must go straight through it. You need to do what you fear the most. That’s called faith. You need to open the door of the closet and see for yourself that the bogeyman isn’t as big as you thought he was. Fear is always worse than reality. The fear of failure is worse than failure. Failure is no big deal. You just get up and start over. The fear of rejection is worse than rejection. The fear of embarrassment is worse than embarrassment. Why? Because the fear goes on for hours and days and years. Fear is “False Evidence Appearing Real.” Fear is a fake.” — Rick Warren
10. “While I can’t control the events of my life, I can rest assured in God’s amazing love for me and my loved ones. So even when I face times I don’t understand His hand, I can always trust His heart.“– Lysa TerKeurst
11. “When we become born again through a relationship with Jesus Christ, we actually become …recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do good works which God predestined…for us…[living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live] (Ephesians 2:10 AMPC).
So whatever Jesus is, we are too. He is strong, and in Him, we are strong. He is courageous; in Him, we are courageous. He is a conqueror, so we can be too. He has peace and joy, so we have peace and joy. He’s capable and bold. In Christ, we can do whatever we need to do with His boldness.” — Joyce Meyer
12. “Imagine yourself in Harriet Tubman’s shoes. Fighting to be freed from deplorable conditions. Placing one foot in front of the other, putting slavery behind you. If a petite, abused slave can rise up, fight for freedom, secure the freedom of others, and change her world, so can I. And so can you.” — Susie Larson
13. “Problems were made to be solved. Life was made to be lived. Although sometimes we may be in over our heads-yes, we may even go under for a few moments and gulp a few mouthfuls of water, we won’t drown. We’re wearing -and always have been wearing-a life jacket. That support jacket is called “God.” — Melody Beattie
When fear causes you to panic, take a deep breath and remind yourself that fear is a deceiver that exaggerates the truth. In those moments of angst what you ought to do instead is to preach the truth to yourself. Memorizing and meditating on a scripture verse or a quote will help.
Keep your focus on what is true: Jesus is always with you to support you.
He will never leave you and you can count on Him. He is but a whisper away. Next time fear tries to paralyze you, simply whisper the powerful name of “Jesus” over and over again, and as you do surrender your fears to Him and rest in His presence.
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” ~ 2 Timothy 4:7
Carol says
1 John 4:1-6
The 4th verse is the strongest.
“You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
