“Trouble is one of God’s great servants because it reminds us how much we continually need the Lord.” ~Jim Cymbala
I don’t know how you react when a crisis hits, but my first reaction to difficult times is to panic! When I’m faced with uncomfortable circumstances, it seems my faith grows wings and flies away.
When life feels overwhelming, pushing myself to read some Bible verses helps jumpstart my faith.
Fear, anxiety, and worry are natural first reactions when dealing with a hard time in life. It’s a process, however, to get out from under our anxious feelings, and allow the power of the Holy Spirit to take over. The encouraging news is that the Word of God is reliable and we can count on it to meet us in our exact place of need.
I’ve put a list of Bible verses together for those times we feel burdened with troubles and we can’t think straight. I’m calling them my “run to Him” verses. May God’s Word be the first place we go when faced with challenging circumstances.
“In the past you have encouraged many people;
you have strengthened those who were weak.
4 Your words have supported those who were falling;
you encouraged those with shaky knees.
5 But now when trouble strikes, you lose heart.
You are terrified when it touches you.
6 Doesn’t your reverence for God give you confidence?
Doesn’t your life of integrity give you hope?” ~ Job 4:3-6
“Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup;
you make my lot secure.
The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
surely I have a delightful inheritance.” ~ Psalm 16:5-6
“I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]” ~ Philippians 4:13 (Amplified Translation)
“My soul dissolves because of grief;
Renew and strengthen me according to [the promises of] Your word.“ ~ Psalm 119:28 (Amplified Translation)
“He gives power to the weak
and strength to the powerless.“ ~ Isaiah 40:29
“But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.“ ~ Isaiah 40:31
“For he will conceal me there when troubles come;
he will hide me in his sanctuary.
He will place me out of reach on a high rock.“ ~ Psalm 27:5
“Even if my father and mother abandon me,
the Lord will hold me close.“~ Psalm 27:10
“Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness
while I am here in the land of the living.14 Wait patiently for the Lord.Be brave and courageous.
Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.” ~ Psalm 27:13-14
“This vision is for a future time.
It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled.
If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently,
for it will surely take place.
It will not be delayed.“ ~ Habbakuk 2:3
“But you, O Lord, are a shield around me;
you are my glory, the one who holds my head high.
4 I cried out to the Lord,
and he answered me from his holy mountain.5 I lay down and slept,
yet I woke up in safety,
for the Lord was watching over me.”~ Psalm 3:3-5
“Teach me your way, Lord,
that I may rely on your faithfulness;
give me an undivided heart,
that I may fear your name.” ~ Psalm 86:11 (NIV)
“…Believe in the Lord your God, and you will be able to stand firm…” ~ 2 Chronicles 20:20
“But he knows where I am going.
And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold.“ ~ Job 23:10
“So he will do to me whatever he has planned.
He controls my destiny.“ ~ Job 23:14
“And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” ~ Philippians 4:19
Next time a storm sweeps through your life and you start to feel overwhelmed, remind yourself to Whom you belong to and what He has written specifically for you. May you and I learn to resist fear and panic in times of trouble, but instead run to God and His Word.
“So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. 19 This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.“~ Psalm 6:18-19
