“Basically, there are two paths you can walk: faith or fear. It’s impossible to simultaneously trust God and not trust God.” ~ Charles Stanley
Everyone struggles with fear at some point in their life. Feelings of anxiety and worry are very real to the person experiencing them.
I know because I have battled with fear most of my life (you can read my blog “Erasing Fear From Your Life” by clicking here). What I’m learning is that most of my fears stem from my “what if” thoughts. These are thoughts that are not based on facts. For some, however, there is a root cause for your fears and it would be wise to seek professional counsel.
Be determined to conquer any ungodly fear in your life.
The first step in fighting off your fears is to make a decision to be intentional and change your thinking. Currently I’m challenged with facing the fear of being alone. Since my husband and I are separated at this time, I find myself having a lot of uneasiness with living by myself. Below are some quotes and Bible verses I’ve put together to help you with the truth about the emotions you’re struggling with. I hope this list will be an encouragement to you.
“During tough times, emotions are not reliable. Scripture trumps feelings. God is near whether you sense His presence or not.” ~ Max Lucado
“Keep your eyes on Christ, that in beholding you may become changed into the Image of God.”~ John Bunyon
“Refuse self-pity. Refuse it absolutely. It is a deadly thing with power to destroy you. Turn your thoughts to Christ who has already carried our griefs and sorrows.”~ Elizabeth Elliot
“The God who loans you life sees your every move, hears each word you speak, knows your every thought. You are seen by God. Noticed. Known.” ~ Frances Chan
“Prayer gives us relief from the melancholy burden of self-absorption.” ~Timothy Keller
“Our heavenly Father understands our disappointment, suffering, pain, fear, and doubt. He is always there to encourage our hearts and help us understand that He’s sufficient for all of our needs. When I accepted this as an absolute truth in my life, I found that my worrying stopped.” – Charles Stanley
“The only answer to fear is faith in God, knowing He loves you unconditionally and individually.”- Joyce Meyer
“Worry is a cycle of inefficient thoughts whirling around a center of fear.” – Corrie Ten Boom
“God will never direct us to be prideful, arrogant and unforgiving, immoral or slothful or full of fear. We step into these things because we are insensitive to the leadership of the Holy Spirit within us.” – Charles Stanley
“The greatest mistake we make is living in constant fear that we will make one.” John C. Maxwell
“Fear is a self imposed prison that will keep you from becoming what God intends for you to be. You must move against it with the weapons of faith and love.” – Rick Warren
“The presence of fear does not mean you have no faith. Fear visits everyone. But make your fear a visitor and not a resident.” ~ Max Lucado
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”~ Isaiah 41:10
“But when I am afraid,
I will put my trust in you.
4 I praise God for what he has promised.
I trust in God, so why should I be afraid?
What can mere mortals do to me?“~ Psalm 56:3-4“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” ~ Philippians 4:6-7
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”~ John 14:27
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” ~ 2 Timothy 4:7
“Even when I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.” ~ Psalm 23:4
“The Lord is my light and my salvation—
so why should I be afraid?
The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger,
so why should I tremble?” ~ Psalm 27:1“Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong.” ~ 1 Corinthian 16:13
“Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.” ~ 1 John 4:18
“But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again.” ~ Exodus 14:13
“So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.”~ Deuteronomy 31:6
“Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God!“~ Luke 1:30
“But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, ‘Don’t be afraid. Just have faith.’“~ Mark 5:36
Learn to pray, seek God and preach His truths to yourself. Be aware of and track your thoughts. If you feel you can’t fight off your fears and you need further help, don’t hesitate to seek out a pastor or therapist. Living in fear is not living. Jesus wants you free from this bondage.
May the Lord help you overcome your fears as you seek His power and wisdom.
