“God says that if you believe in Him and trust Him, you can’t even imagine how great the future is that He has for you.” ~ Stormie Omartian
Wouldn’t life be so much easier if we just knew what the future held?
My husband and I have recently gone through a big life change. After 23 years, we’ve moved to a new house in a new city. Since everything is unfamiliar, we are currently living with a lot of unknowns.
On top of this, I’m learning to adapt to a new season of life. Now that our children are grown up and doing their own thing, I’ve been wondering what my purpose is. Even though I am aware that God wants me to be “anxious for nothing,” I’ll admit that I’ve been worrying lately.
Do you ever feel apprehensive about your future?
Some of you are concerned about what career to pursue. You don’t have a clear vision for your life. Others of you are fearful of whether you will meet your significant other or if you’ll remain single. Maybe you are troubled about your health, or you’re disturbed about restoring a broken relationship. There’s so much in life we don’t have any control over. Questioning what God has planned for you is natural, but it can also be nerve-wracking.
We don’t know what the future holds but God does, and if you have a personal relationship with Him you then have access to His desires for your life. This connection is called prayer.
The most fruitful way to invest in your future is to pray.
God has a good plan for your life. You, however, will need to seek Him to find out what His will is. This is done through communicating with Him-through prayer. Learn to pray very specific, bold and detailed prayers. Don’t be afraid to talk to your Heavenly Father about everything that’s on your heart. He loves you and He wants you to be in the center of His will.
Have the confidence to know that God will respond to your prayers in His perfect timing. He may orchestrate events in your life to happen accordingly. He will open and close doors for you. Perhaps His response to you will come through an impression upon your heart. When this happens it’s like He’s whispering in your ear, “This is the way you should go, whether to the right or to the left” (Isaiah 30:21). Try not to take matters in your own hands, but be patient and wait for God to lead you.
The best thing you can do as you seek God for direction is to nourish your intimacy with Him by spending time in His Word and being a person of prayer. God is a God of compassion and He cares deeply for you (Lamentations 3:32-33).
Living in the shades of gray, believing God hears your prayers, isn’t easy. Life isn’t always clear cut and waiting on the Lord can be extremely challenging. However, trusting God with your life makes the wait worth it. Persevere and don’t give up, knowing that “at just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up” (Galations 6:9).
Praying for guidance on your next steps is the most profitable thing you can do to invest in your future. As you walk daily with Him, you will be prepared for all that He has planned for you.
Please feel free to share with me in a comment below what you are seeking the Lord on these days.
“And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.” ~ Luke 11:9.

Congrats on your new adventure – so excitied so see where the Lord leads you in this next season! I love your blog – always so helpful to me. Luke 11:9 really spoke to me – it is where I’m at lately. I am learning to wait on the Lord and have faith He will answer my prayers. I’m learning to be patient and like you wrote, not take matters into my own hands. So grateful for you sharing the wisdom the Lord places in you.

Great encouragements, sister. I love it when you say it is worth the wait as we trust Him to lead and guide. The outcome is always much more than we can anticipate. We will be pleasantly surprised to see His wisdom if we would pray and wait. I am excited for your new beginning in a new place and what He has in store for you.
