“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.” ~Charles W. Eliot
Books can heal, guide and encourage. They can also be a great escape for when life is challenging.
Most people seem to have more free time to read in the Summer. Vacations are planned, the days are longer and the warm sunshine relaxes our mind and bodies. Summer time just seems to be a season more conducive to reading.
Personally, I love spending any free time I have with a book. Books have often been a source of support for me, comforting me during a difficult time, directing and/or educating me at others. For sure, reading is my absolute favorite thing to do.
Recently I started ordering e-books so that I can read them on my i-phone late at night when my husband is asleep. That’s how much I love reading!
Here are 5 books I recommend for some Summer reading:
Make sure to make reading your Bible a top priority, now and always.
Read it daily. Read it slowly.
Read it with sweet anticipation, trusting the Lord to speak to you, personally, through it.
This book has taught me everything I need to know to be the person God created me to be.
2. Redeeming Love, Francine Rivers
This is a fiction novel, but it is based on the book of Hosea from the Bible. It is a book about God’s unconditional love. I know people that have read this book three or more times.
You will not want to put it down!
This book taught me that I should always try to understand others and to love unconditionally.
3. Greater, Steven Furtick
Did you ever feel like you aren’t in touch with your dreams? Steven Furtick will ignite your passion for your dreams. His encouraging words will jump off the pages of his book and right into your heart.
This book taught me to pursue God’s vision for my life.
4. The Circle Maker, Mark Batterson
Mark Batterson will change the way you see prayers and the way you pray. He encourages you to make goals for your life and guides you on how to pursue all that God has for your life in a more confident manner.
This book will also help you realize that with God by your side, you can face any fears you may have because nothing is impossible with God.
This book taught me to pray big prayers, because I serve a big God.
5. Love Does, Bob Goff
As followers of Christ, our greatest calling is to love well. Real love is shown by our actions, not just our words.
After reading Bob Goff’s book, “Love Does,” I learned that it is so much more important putting love in action and that everything we have is a gift from God. In this book, the author shares real life personal stories of his experiences. They are amazing stories that put a desire in your heart to love others without any limits.
This book taught me how to love like Jesus does~unconditionally.
Leave me a comment below on any books you recommend that have encouraged your life. I’m always looking for a good book to read.

My all time favorite is of course the Bible. Have read Redeeming Love and loved it. The other three I have yet to read. Thank you for the recommendations. Reading is my favorite past-time too. Thank you for the encouragement.

Yes, of course the Holy Bible is the BEST book written. 🙂

Love all of those! Such good books. Another really good, and thought provoking one, is Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. Also, Crazy Love by Francis Chan, it really helps you understand how vast and deep God’s love for us is.

Ah yes, Mere Christianity is a classic. I too LOVE Crazy Love. That book changed my life! And I was blessed to have been able to tell Frances Chan that to his face when he came to Moody for Founders Week. 🙂
