One of the most powerful things we can pray for is wisdom.
True wisdom comes only from God. The Bible has a lot to say about wisdom, showing how important it is to God that we not live without it.
I love what Psalm 111:10 says; “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom.” Scripture is clear that wisdom comes from God as we surrender to His ways, walk in obedience to His commandments, and live in respect of Him.
But why do we need God’s wisdom?
1. Godly wisdom leads us to live in the center of God’s will .
We need wisdom to hear His voice to make the right choices. His wisdom gives us clarity of mind and removes confusion. Making godly choices is critical to our well being.
2. Godly wisdom helps us know good from evil.
Seeking God’s wisdom can protect us from evil. (Proverbs 2:12). With God’s wisdom we can sense, by the Holy Spirit, when something doesn’t feel right and steer away from danger.
3. Godly wisdom leads us towards strong, healthy and peaceful relationships.
I always ask the Lord to give my children wisdom when I pray for their choice of friends and for their future spouses. With God’s gift of wisdom we can discern if someone is a good friend for us or not.
4. Godly wisdom gives us peace.
When we seek God’s wisdom in all areas of our lives, we will have an inner confidence and peace that surpasses human understanding.
5. Godly wisdom gives us security.
As we continually ask God to guide us with His wisdom, we can trust Him, knowing that He is in control. There is a sense of assurance in knowing that God’s hand is on all areas of your life.
6. Godly wisdom gives us discernment and revelation.
We live in a world full of chaos and deception, and as Christians we need God’s wisdom, discernment and revelation to know how to live fruitfully in this world. By the wisdom of God we can live in His ways and not in the ways of this world.
But how do we receive God’s wisdom?
As followers of Jesus Christ we can receive God’s wisdom by asking Him for it. In James 1:5 it says, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” Once we have asked God for wisdom we then wait patiently and believe by faith that we will receive it.
We receive God’s wisdom as we abide in Him (John 15:5) .
Spend quality time with Him daily through prayer and reading His Word. Surround yourself with godly Christians who will strengthen, challenge and encourage your faith.
Respect the Lord and His commandments, and His wisdom will flow through you (1 Corinthians 1:30). (Tweet this).
Make it a regular part of your daily prayer to ask God to fill you and your loved ones up with His wisdom. Seek His wisdom to lead and guide you in all areas of your life. Have the faith to believe that you will receive His wisdom, and remember to be patient as you wait to hear from Him.
And never forget to thank Him for such a blessed gift.
Please leave me a comment below on your thoughts on godly wisdom.
“But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.” ~ James 3:17

Thank you so much Lolly. I really appreciate your encouragement and I’m so glad that my writings are encouraging your walk with the Lord. This is what I want the most-for God to use my blog to encourage, challenge and strengthen other believers (and maybe even nudge some to open their heart to Him). Your words have blessed me a lot. Love you too sis~ 🙂
