I like Albert Einstein’s definition of insanity. He said “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
I’ve had times in my life where I have behaved “insanely” by doing the same thing over and over again and yet expecting a different result.
I did this in my marriage. For years I would try to control my husband by demanding to have my way. I did this so that he would pay attention to me.
I wasn’t successful.
It wasn’t until I met Jesus and He showed me how to respect myself that I, my husband, and our marriage improved. I had finally done something different with my life.
How about you?
What are you doing (or not doing) over and over again in your life and yet expecting different results?
How about in your walk with Christ?
Are you expecting to sense His presence, feel His strength, know His love, but yet you aren’t spending quality time with Him?
You’re not reading His Word, spending time in prayer, having Christian fellowship, or serving Him in any capacity, but yet you expect to have intimacy with Him?
This is insane.
The truth is that it is only through a personal and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ will you feel whole. It’s the whole reason God Created you- to have a relationship with Him (Leviticus 26:12).
Like all relationships, your relationship with Christ is a two way street. You have to nurture a relationship in order for it to grow.
Quite often I hear individuals say that they don’t sense God’s presence and that He feels distant. Almost every time, when I ask them if they are spending quality time daily with Him, the answer is no.
That’s crazy.
It’s foolish to think you can have a deep connection with God and yet you put very little into developing your relationship with Him.
“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.“
When we choose to live a life in “My Lane” and not in “Jesus Lane” then we are choosing a pathway of insanity.
How do you want to live? For Jesus or for your self?
Surrendering daily and living for Christ is the only way to live a sane life (Click to tweet). The Bible says if you don’t worship God, your mind becomes dark and confused and you become an “utter fool” (Romans 1:21-22).
If you want to live for Jesus, then begin to seek support from Him. No matter where you are in your walk with Him, He will help you grow.
If you aren’t experiencing God’s amazing love and/or if you aren’t sensing His presence within you, then it may be time to do something different.
Maybe you are spending time reading your Bible, but you aren’t spending quality time reading it. As a Christian it is important to study the Bible continually. Meditate on it day and night so that you will obey all that is written in it (Joshua 1:8).
Maybe you have too many distractions around you and you need to make some boundaries for yourself.
Maybe you are living life in your own strength and you simply need to ask Jesus to help you surrender some addiction in your life. Allow God to transform you into a new person by changing the way you think (Romans 12:2).
Yet, maybe you are brand new at the Christian life and you need to find community, a church and/or join a bible study.
Whatever it is you need for a deeper intimacy with the Lord, stop your insanity of doing the same thing and just change whatever it is you need to change. If you do this, your future will be so blessed and you will live in security.
Is Jesus Christ Lord of your life?
Leave me a comment on what you are willing to do to build intimacy and improve your relationship with Jesus.
“Oh, the joys of those who do not
follow the advice of the wicked,
or stand around with sinners,
or join in with mockers.
But they delight in the law of the Lord,
meditating on it day and night.” ~ Psalm 1:1-2

I love to interact with God by reading His Word and praying it. The verses you ended with (Psalm 1:1-2), have been my special prayer for my youngest daughter. I see God answering that prayer. Thanks for encouraging me to expand my time in studying God’s Word and praying it back to Him.

Arlene-I like the reminder you have made here about praying God’s Word. It’s so powerful to do so. Thank you so much for being so supportive of me. You are always so thoughtful to comment on my blog posts. I really appreciate it.
