As Christians we have two callings. The first is to become more like Jesus Christ and the second is to further His Kingdom (Romans 1:5-7, Romans 12:1-2, 1 Peter 1:15-16 and Matthew 28:16-20).
In order to reach these two callings we first have to be confident in who we are in Christ.
Why do we not proclaim the gospel message of Jesus Christ boldly everywhere we go, in everything we do? Not with just our mouths but by our actions, dress, words, with our being.
We proclaim the gospel message through our live
I love that saying by Francis of Assisi that goes like this: “Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words.” We don’t always have to open our mouths and preach about Jesus.
We first have to be Jesus to others.
This can’t be faked. Being like Jesus is something that comes from within us, something genuine.
However, many of us act a certain way depending on who we are with, acting one way with our Christian friends and acting completely different with our non-believer friends.
Why is this? Why are we not the same person 24/7?
When we are more interested in winning the heart of other human beings than winning the heart of God, we grieve God. Honoring and pleasing the Lord ought to be our number one desire (1 Thessalonians 2:4).
So, how do we become people that want God’s approval more than we want man’s approval and therefore truly are Jesus to those who God places in our path? How do we become God pleasers and not man pleasers?
My personal belief is that the biggest reason for Christians wanting to live for man’s approval over God’s approval is that most Christians do not read their Bibles.
We need to be immersed in the Word of God.
The truth is that unless we are reading our Bible daily, we will never be truly all that we can be for the Kingdom of God.
By this I don’t mean that if you miss a day of reading God’s Word here or there you will no longer be a Christian. But if you are going days and days without it, you are going to wilt-like a flower would after days without water.
It is through the Word of God that we learn about Jesus’s character.
It is through the Word of God that we learn how to be more like Him.
It is through the Word of God that we fall in love with Jesus.
It is through the Word of God that we learn to love ourselves.
It is through the Word of God that we build a solid foundation.
It is through the Word of God that we learn to love others.
It is through the Word that we see ourselves as we really are.
It is through the Word of God that we become the man or woman of God that God created us to be.
It is through the Word of God that we will act the same wherever we are because we will be so transformed into Jesus’s likeness that it will become WHO we are-all the time, 24/7.
It is through the Word of God that we become genuine Christians.
It is then, only then, that we can we be true witnesses to the lost world around us.
Until you learn to read your Bible regularly and consistently you will never be all that you can be in Christ Jesus, because the Bible is God’s letter to us-it was written to guide, encourage, and strengthen us throughout all of life.. Reading your Bible isn’t enough though, you must meditate on what you read and talk to God about what He might be telling you.
If you need further help on how to get into the Word of God, read my blog post How to Spend time with God or write to me. I would love to help you in any way that I can.
We are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us…(2 Corinthians 5:20). We represent Jesus to all those around us. We must take this responsibility-this honor- seriously. If we allow the Word of God to control us, we will be transformed into Christ’s image so that the world can see Jesus in us.
Leave me a comment below and share with me what your thoughts are on the importance of reading God’s Word daily. Do you struggle with reading your Bible? If so, why?
“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” ~ Hebrews 4:12

I like your list of what God’s Word can do and I can use any on the list as the primary motive for reading a chapter or book. Thanks to you, my dear.
